Lynfred wines are created by Chilean-born winemakers Andres Basso and Rodrigo Gonzalez. As an urban winery, our winemakers source the best fruit from vineyards in Washington, California, Illinois, Michigan, and Chile. Lynfred believes in gentle processing and minimal handling and procedures. Ultimately, the best fruit, cared for under the best conditions in the cellar transforms into a supreme delight when processed, aged, and blended in their signature style and is unique to the Midwest. No other winery in the region can boast the variety of wines made in-house that Lynfred offers under Andres’ and Rodrigo’s tutelage.

About the Wine Region – The Douro

Land near a river, and naturally protected by mountain ranges, inspired winemakers to plant vineyards along the Douro, but wild landscapes and nutrient-poor soil made this an extremely difficult task. The birthplace of port wine would simply not exist today if it hadn’t been for the centuries of determined winegrowers who laboriously carved rows of vines into the steep, dramatic terrain.

Their efforts proved worthwhile. Angled, rocky terrain just so happens to be ideal for the growth of grapes. Over the years, the magnitude of the Douro Valley wine region has grown remarkably and it is now divided into three parts. Our Enticing Douro itinerary cruises through all three sub-regions, giving you a taste of Northern Portugal’s famous ports and table wines.

Spend three nights in Portugal’s capital, Lisbon, before beginning your journey through the wonderfully scenic Douro River Valley. It is one of Europe’s most pure and unspoiled rivers decorated with deep cleft gorges, lush vineyards, and sleepy fishing villages. Begin in the capital of the North, Porto, and continue to the ancient and picturesque city of Lamego. Enter Spain to visit Salamanca, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, located at the center of the Castilla y León region. Travel inland and on to the beautiful countryside of the Trás-os-Montes Region to visit the palace and gardens of Mateus. Explore the 14th-century Alpendurada Monastery before concluding your vacation in historic Porto.
