From beer to music to film, here are some fall festivals you won’t want to miss!

The cities along the Danube River and throughout Austria really come to life during fall. In addition to brilliant fall foliage and the enriching excursions we offer as part of our river cruise itineraries, we encourage you to discover these local festivals as part of your independent exploration before or after your AmaWaterways cruise.

Wiener Wiesn-Fest
(typically happens in late September)

Immerse yourself in Austrian culture during Vienna’s Oktoberfest! Set against its famous giant Ferris wheel, the festival celebrates local beer, music and tempting local delicacies from Wiener Schnitzel to Brettljause (cold cuts). You’ll be treated to brass bands, folk music, fresh-baked pretzels and more in a lively festive atmosphere as locals proudly wear their traditional lederhosen and dirndls all around you.

Bratislava Music Festival
(typically happens in early October)

Be mesmerized by the classical melodies and rhythms flowing throughout the city during Bratislava’s 55th Annual Music Festival. Attend any of 23 concerts performed by renowned international orchestras, world-famous conductors, powerful soloists and talented Slovak artists as Bratislava puts musical prowess on full display for your enjoyment.

Salzburg Culture Days
(typically happens late September through October)

What better way to celebrate the legacy left behind by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart than for his birthplace to put on a yearly festival of classical music and opera? Held since 1972, Salzburg’s Culture Days performances offer an often creative, contemporary twist on historic tunes. Aside from more traditional concerts, you might see hip hop dancers grooving to Broadway showtunes, famous actors giving literary readings to music and more.

Blue Danube Film Festival
(Budapest | Vienna - typically in late November)

Only the third of its kind, this short film festival held in both Vienna and Budapest showcases independently produced films from all over the world. Screened both in English or with English subtitles, entries are encouraged to use creativity and experimentation while exploring common human and societal challenges.

Vilshofen Oktoberfest Celebration

Experience an authentic year-round Oktoberfest celebration on many of our Danube River itineraries in Vilshofen, Germany – an exclusive AmaWaterways offering! Savor the fresh pretzels and hearty beer as you dance the night away to live traditional German tunes performed by lederhosen-wearing musicians.

As part of your independent exploration before or after your cruise, attend these events during our Danube River itineraries, including Romantic Danube and Melodies of the Danube, sailing!
